World’s first PC game written by Bill Games, now on the iPhone

Bill Gates popular not only because of Microsoft Windows, but he also wrote the first PC game. The game known as DONKEY.BAS was given free with early version of the DOS operating system which was used for IBM PCs that time.

The simple driving game was written at 4am by Gates and friend, Neil Thompson on prototype PC in 1981. The game developed in low -resolution, 8 bit graphics and sounds. After three decades, now it’s back but on the Apple iPhone and iPad.The new version is on sale for Apple iOS devices, priced at $0.99.

“IBM insisted that we had to have a lock on the door, and we only had this closet that had a lock on it, so we had to do all our development in there and it was always over 100 degrees, but we wrote late at night a little application to show what the Basic built into the IBM PC could do”, told Gates in a 2001 speech.

“And so that was DONKEY.BAS. It was at the time very thrilling.”
