Volunia- search engine Google’s competitor

Massimo Marchiori, Italian professor unveiled a social search engine called Volunia, was claimed represents the 3rd generation of search. Marchiori who was a member in Google’s search Engine algorithm development is about launching his own search engine before the end of the year to compete Google which dominated on search engine field. Right now, Volunia service not yet open to the public, we can request to get access into it.

Massimo Marchiori was awarded the TR100 prize by the Technology Review (the best 100 researchers in the world). He is professor in Computer Science at the University of Padua, Italy.

He was the creator of HyperSearch, a search engine which insipring Larry Page and Sergey Brin to coming out idea of PageRank. The idea of Volunia is not new because Microsoft already coming out same idea through So.cl site. Massimo call this method “Seek and Meet”. This means, Volunia makes it possible to search for something and also to meet other people who are searching for the same thing.

He has been working on the project for four years and has been praised by Italian commentators for giving up a more high-profile career in the United States to return to Italy, where his salary is 2,000 euros ($2,600) a month. The project was back by co-founder, Mariano Pireddu have reportedly invested a couple of million euros. Volunia will be rolled out more widely and in 12 languages including Arabic, English, Japanese and Russian over the coming days.
