iPad mini vs Nexus 7?Which one to buy?

Apple’s iPad mini and Nexus 7 are compete each other because both have almost same screen size. Even though Steve Jobs once branded 7-inch tablets as “tweeners” and stated that the size was useless unless you include sandpaper so users can sand their fingers down to a quarter of their size, but finally Apple has turned its attention to the smaller screen after dominating large screen tablet in the market.

People now like more 7-inch tablet compared to 10-inch tablet because the form factor, fit with on hand, light and feel good when playing games. Can you decide which small tablet is the best to buy? If you are new buyer and not Apple fan, continue reading this post.

So, here we explained two tablet, Apple’s iPad mini and Google Nexust 7. Apple just made its move into the smaller tablet market with the iPad mini, 7.9-inch tablet. The Google Nexus 7 by Asus is the world’s first 7-inch quadcore tablet to run on Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

Why I choose the Nexus 7 as a contender for the iPad mini? Because the Nexus 7 is possibly the best budget tablet in the market with the latest Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and quad core processor. Of course each has pros and cons. Let’s look at these tablet common parts.

Fit into pocket and hand
Both are in the same category, 7-8 inch tablets, but there are difference in term of dimension. Nexus 7 has little bit narrower than iPad mini and jacket pocket friendly. The iPad mini is a bit wider and much thinner, but it gives larger display compared to Nexus 7.

Higher resolution
Even though the Nexus 7 only 7-inch compared to the iPad mini 7.9-inch, but it uses an 1280×800 resolution higher than the iPad mini, 1024×768 resolution. But Apple has reason why they put the resolution to the iPad mini. The resolution 1024×768 makes the aspect ratio 4:3, similar to all previous iPads, 16:10. This means it can run the existing – and extensive – catalogue of iPad-specific apps.

Performance
Apple’s iPad mini is equipped with 1-Ghz dual core A5 chip powers, the chip that run in the iPad 2. While the Nexus 7 uses a 1.3 Ghz quad-core nVidia Tegra 3 processor. I can say that the performance both tablet are no difference and both are powerful enough for playing games.

Value for money
Most of the reviewers said the iPad mini is pricey. But when it’s made by Apple, it’s always sell at premium price because Apple claimed the iPad mini is premium product. For those who already owned the iPad, move to iPad can save your money compared to move to Android tablet, Google Nexus 7 because you can use existing apps’s iPad into the iPad mini. But for new user who still think which tablet is worth to buy, of course Google Nexus 7. Android based tablet are easy to use and open source (means that you can find more free apps than Apple).
