Firefox 17 Now Includes Facebook Messaging Sidebar

Mozilla on Monday announced that Firefox 17 now includes a Facebook messaging sidebar for easier communication with a users Facebook friends list.

The opt-in feature allows users to quickly access Facebook Messenger from any page on the web. Users can also see their Facebook notifications whenever using the browser and they are given the option to hide the sidebar when not in use.

In a public statement regarding the release of Firefox 17′s new feature Mozilla states:

The HTML5-based options is a joint effort between Mozilla and Facebook and is based off the HTML5 Social API.

Mozilla is also believed to be working on Twitter and other social network connections. In a blog post Mozilla writes:

Today’s Facebook integration is just the start of making Firefox more social. We’ll soon add support for more features and multiple providers.

While specialty browsers have worked to integrate social network features into their interfaces Mozilla is the first big player in the mobile browsing game to make a similar jump.

Microsoft working on gaming ‘Xbox Surface’ 7-inch tablet. The rumor was revealed by The Verge, which is cited multiple sources familiar with the company’s plans. The Xbox Surface is expected to include a custom ARM processor and high-bandwidth RAM designed for gaming purpose.

Messaging and other tablet functions may be supported, but the focus is on gaming. The rumored tablet is said to run a custom Windows kernel. Microsoft is currently one of the leading gaming console makers along with Sony and Nintendo. The rising of smartphones and tablets reduce the popularity of gaming console in consumer market.

Asus told Nexus 7 is selling nearly 1 million per month

Google Nexus 7

How amazing Nexus 7 is. I think Nexus 7 is not so popular in Malaysia. When I went to Lowyat Plaza, KL, it hard to find this gadget at gadgets floor. Mostly, all the shops put Samsung Galaxy Tab as a their display gadget. However, I managed to find Nexus 7 at ground floor and play with it.

For those unfamiliar with the Nexus 7, it comes with a 7-inch LED-backlit IPS LCD, a Quad-core 1.3 GHz Cortex-A9, 1GB of RAM, a 4325-mAh battery, NFC and Android Jelly Bean. The Nexus 7 began shipping in July 2012 and was met with high demand from the start. The device is a 7-inch, Android Jelly Bean tablet with a 1280×800 pixel display and a quad-core processor.

Asus’s Chief Financial Officer, David Chang has revealed that its 7-inch tablet, which starts at $199 in the US, is approaching 1 million sales a month. David Chang has told the Wall Street Journal.

“At the beginning, it was, for instance, 500K units a month, then maybe 600, 700K. This latest month, it was close to one million,” Chang said. These figures signal an encouraging trend for Asus and Google, though they’re still far below iPad sales, which reached 14 million last quarter.

The sales are likely to continue as earlier in the week Google announced a 32GB and HSPA+ version of the Nexus 7 which users have been asking for since the initial launch, along with a new Nexus smartphone and a 10-inch tablet built by Samsung.
